Stamped Concrete in Redmond, WA

Your Dream Surface, Stamped to Perfection

Stamped concrete is a way to turn plain concrete into a work of art. As part of Redmond Concrete Works, we offer customized stamped concrete that replicates the look of high-end materials such as stone, brick, and tile at a price much lower than actual high-end materials. Whether it’s a stamped concrete patio, driveway, or pool deck, we bring creativity and technical precision to every project.

We have completed many stamped concrete installations in and around Redmond. We know how to make designs that go well with the styles of homes found in the Pacific Northwest. It takes time, skill, and attention to detail to complete this process correctly. When you hire us to install stamped concrete, we treat each project as a custom piece of art, not just another pour of concrete.

What is Stamped Concrete?

Stamps are used to add patterns and textures to “workable” (pliable) decorative concrete, which can be made to resemble natural materials such as individual pavers, natural stone, or even wood planks. Stamped concrete does look similar to these materials; however, unlike individual pavers, stone, or wood planks, it is part of a solid slab of concrete.

First, we pour in the concrete, then we may add color to the mix depending on the design desired, and then stamp the design onto the surface of the wet concrete before it hardens. After it has fully hardened and been sealed, our stamped concrete will provide a long-lasting, low-maintenance surface that will maintain its beauty for many years. Stamped concrete is also an extremely versatile option when looking to enhance your outdoor space(s).

Color Options for Stamped Concrete

Stamped concrete gets an extra boost when you put color on it. The two ways we do this are by adding color (integral) to the mix of the concrete before it is poured, and then using a color hardener on the finished surface. Both can be used together to create a multi-toned look that creates additional depth in your patterns.

For most projects, earth tone colors will be the most successful. Tans, browns, grays, and terra cotta colors blend well with their surroundings and hide dirt well. We can also develop custom blended color combinations or contrasting color combinations to add a pop of color to borders. Adding a border treatment to your stamped concrete will help define areas and add detail to make it look more sophisticated.

Stamped Concrete Overlay: Updating Existing Surfaces

You can add decorative treatments to an already structurally sound piece of existing concrete (you do not need to replace it entirely) with a stamped concrete overlay. We will place a thin layer of new concrete on top of your existing surface and then use stamps to imprint the design into the overlay.

This method is less expensive than replacing the entire slab of concrete but produces identical visual results. This is great for updating older, plain-looking patios or driveways. The overlay bonds well to the existing concrete and functions just as well as if you had replaced the entire slab of concrete. Can you put stamped concrete over existing concrete? Yes, if your base is stable and you prepare the area correctly.

Stamped Concrete Installation Process

We take a lot of time in preparing the job site to install quality stamped concrete because you have to get it all done at the right moment. Like on every other project, we prepare the site and then pour the concrete. After the concrete has reached the proper workability, we use a release agent and then press our pattern stamps into the surface of the wet concrete. There is a very short window for this. If we do it too early, the patterns will distort, and if we wait too long, the stamps will not be able to create an impression on the surface of the concrete.

Once we are through stamping, the concrete cures. We go back to clean the surface and then apply the sealer to the surface. The sealer protects the color and pattern of the stamped concrete by adding a level of protection that prevents fading over time. Sealing the stamped concrete also adds a level of sheen to the surface, which helps make the stamped concrete look “polished” and complete. Finally, sealing the surface makes cleaning the surface much easier, and it reduces the amount of staining that can occur on the surface of the stamped concrete.

Maintenance and Care

Stamped concrete needs very little maintenance. Just sweep away or use a blower to remove debris regularly. Clean with a mild soap and water solution as needed. Re-seal your stamped concrete every 2-3 years for the best protection and appearance. In the winter season, do not apply de-icing products (chemicals) to your stamped concrete because sand is better at melting ice, and it will not harm your concrete’s finish.

If you spill something, clean it up right away so that it does not leave a stain. Although the sealer gives your stamped concrete good stain-resistance properties, there are certain types of stains (such as oil, grease, or acidic substances) that may still occur if the substance is allowed to sit for a while. Also, address any small cracks that appear immediately. Most stamped concrete will develop minimal cracking during its life if it was properly installed with expansion joints.

Stamped Concrete Designs and Patterns

Stamped concrete designs are one of the many ways we help our customers express their personal style through a design process for their home’s exterior. Every stamp is designed to add a certain personality to your home’s exterior. Below are some of the most popular stamped concrete designs we install regularly.

Patterns That Mimic Natural Stone (Flagstone, Slate, Cobblestone)

Three common patterns will give your stamped concrete patio, stamped concrete walkway, stamped concrete pool deck, or stamped concrete driveway a look of real quarry stone. Ashlar slate, flagstone, and cobblestone all have an “irregular” pattern that will add a warm, organic look to your landscape as if it were a part of your yard.

Patterns That Mimic Brick or Tile (Herringbone, Basketweave, Running Bond)

The herringbone, basketweave, and running bond patterns will give your stamped concrete patio, stamped concrete walkway, or stamped concrete driveway a traditional look of brick or tile. These styles work well with colonial and traditional architecture, but they are popular for use as front walkways as well as stamped concrete driveways.

A Wood Grain Pattern That Looks Like Wood

You can have the look of a wood deck, but none of the problems associated with a wood deck when you have a wood grain pattern on your stamped concrete patio or stamped concrete pool surround. This pattern creates a warm feeling that is perfect for creating a comfortable atmosphere around your pool or patio area.

Seamless Skin Stamps – Custom Borders And Combining Patterns

A seamless skin stamp will create a uniform texture throughout your entire stamped concrete patio, stamped concrete walkway, stamped concrete pool deck, or stamped concrete driveway. A seamless skin stamp is ideal for modern designs where you want to add texture, but do not want to see pattern lines. We can also use a combination of patterns or create a custom border for a unique look.
